I was wrong. What I thought was a bench. Isn't. It's a piece of hostile architecture designed to torture the user.

On the face of it. Doesn't look too bad. 4 people can sit on it. But alas. You see that gap between the bench and the pillar? Means you can't get any back support.

That red metal surround supporting it? If you sit with your legs over the side, they are really cold and uncomfortable. Sitting on it for any length of time is just uncomfortable. Here are lots of them tho...

Weirdly though, it seems "sleepable," and preventing people from lying down is usually a central theme of this sort of thing.

Perhaps the city planners have gone full "Colin Robinson" and are focused on causing the maximum amount of bad feeling possible; a lot of White people think stuff that is hostile to the poors is good and they feel nice when they see spikes in the ground, for instance, that mean they don't have to walk past a homeless guy.

A more pure, expansive sadism.
