A clamp... Holding a clamp... Holding a clamp... Holding the work piece...

Spotted this seal this morning basking on the harbour wall at Hoek van Holland Haven.

Having a go at heat treating. Heat up to a cherry red (and no longer magnetic). Quench in rape seed oil. Then bake for 2 hours at 200°C.

The file test shows it hard after the quench. Which is a good start.

Gotta love a good headline typo.

Do you hear the people sing?

Can't use one of the tools I'd like to today. So working on other projects. It's definitely a metal working kinda day.

Experimenting with setups for grinding an angled edge. With apparently Mountain Dew as the coolant...

The angle iron at the back is the stop the coolant falling off the back, keeping (most of) it within the machine's coolant loop.

My entry for the world's most precisely ground piece of scrap ...

Get on grinder they said...

Dunno if I'm doing it right..

Am very happy with my new plane. It's crazy sharp. As I've now found. And lovely to use.

Have now added hinges to the box. Concealed 8mm barrel hinges. I need to add two screws to finish it. But for now it seems to work!!! Am very pleased.

I also need to add a chain or some string to hold it in position when open.

I have been told the carriage I need will be by the clock...

This is the platform...

How the bench ends up being used... Thus making it not work for 4 people..

I was wrong. What I thought was a bench. Isn't. It's a piece of hostile architecture designed to torture the user.

On the face of it. Doesn't look too bad. 4 people can sit on it. But alas. You see that gap between the bench and the pillar? Means you can't get any back support.

That red metal surround supporting it? If you sit with your legs over the side, they are really cold and uncomfortable. Sitting on it for any length of time is just uncomfortable. Here are lots of them tho...

I am genuinely surprised that the Thalys in the opposite direction is pretty empty. Especially Given Thalys have a business model designed to piss off their customers to maintain a 100% occupancy on their trains...
