I'm creating an account on @atomicpoet new server calckey.social to try out how #CalcKey works, compared to other servers such as #mastodon.

During the signup flow and profile creation I'm being asked this delightful question. No idea what it actually means to speak like a cat, but I'm excited!

In response to a troll, I shared the latest energy mix numbers. And folks - I didn't realize we were this far already!

Anybody who still says crap like "you mean your coal-powered car?" is just woefully misinformed.

I mean, I knew that, but I didn't realize it was quite this extreme.

A few months ago, we warned that malevolent people were buying Google ads leading people to fake #GIMP websites to trick them into downloading malware.
Apparently this is still continuing to this day (as were reported to us). Google is still not blocking these fake ads despite the many reports and articles which happened for months now. 😓

Be careful and always make sure where you download your software from. Also the GIMP project doesn't buy ads!

You can lead a commenter to the article but you can't make them read.

I'm surprised Twitter is even giving a week's notice:

"Starting February 9, we will no longer support free access to the Twitter API, both v2 and v1.1. A paid basic tier will be available instead."

Ingenuity, the Mars Helicopter, was supposed to make only 5 flights. On Jan. 27 2023, it recorded its 41st flight.
Loving space programs that underpromise and overdeliver. Also notable, the CPU of Ingenuity is an off-the-shelf Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor and seems to adjust just fine to Mars! mars.nasa.gov/technology/helic

The Bank of England will continue with its policy of laying waste to the UK economy today taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2023/0. The very last thing the UK economy needs today is an interest rate rise, but the Bank of England is intent on economic destruction, so that is what we will get.

An abolitionist designed the statue. A group of abolitionists paid for the statue. There's a plaque at the feet telling everyone what it's for. They named it the Statue of Liberty. It's arguably the largest anti-racism monument in the US, and the most recognizable anti-racism monument in the world...

Except people don't even know it's an anti-racism monument. They think it celebrates the huge influx of white immigrants from Europe that came to the US.

"Apparently, your monthly fixed and mobile internet subscriptions are still not expensive enough to cover all the costs. Telcos now argue that they need up to €36 billion extra per year, or €80 per European, to manage your day-to-day internet traffic."

Had fun at de Klimmuur Amsterdam Centraal last night, although apparently my harness and belay technique are both antiquated.

I’ve been reading Leviticus wrong all these years, it’s not “Thou shalt not suffer a fool to live.” Ah well.

teacher: what does “agnostic” mean?

me: I don’t know

teacher: correct! how about “ambivalent”?

me: *shrug*

teacher: yes! how about “nihilistic”?

me: what difference does any of this make?

teacher: amazing

Thank you GitHub for listening and giving us customizable social links on our profile. Have thrown out the old one still pointing to you know where and now there's a shiny new :mastodon: link in its place 🥳

Thank you @derekprior and team!

Folks don't even know the reasons of the civil war or that the flag designer said "Let this be the flag of white supremacy!"

I bet 50% of them would drop it on learning.

NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Sr removed confederate flags from his car after learning about its true origins from a Black friend. His son, Dale Earnhardt Jr. vocally supported NASCAR banning the confederate flag. 👍🏿

Yes, some racists still like the flag after learning about it. But there are way fewer of them.

One of the nice things about being able to work from home as an attorney is that when one of your clients tells you that they didn't follow the advice you gave them and as a result all of the bad things that you warned them would happen if they didn't follow your advice did in fact happen you can grab a pillow and scream into it to your heart's content without freaking out any of your coworkers.

Although the cats might not think it's very kosher. 😾
