It’s only kraanwater if it comes from the Kraansluis region of Amsterdam. Otherwise it’s just flat tap juice.
@th Now wait a sec. In Finnish we have “kraanavesi” meaning tap water. My Finnish etymological dictionary says kraana comes from Estonian and German, meaning both a crane and a water tap. Now you're adding Kraansluis to the equation.
@shem67 @th Kraan in Dutch also means crane and water tap.But in Amsterdam we call tap water gemeentepils (municipality beer)
The lock is called Kraansluis because there was a huge crane standing near the IJ between 1643 and 1841.
