@th That model initially had an interesting feature where one could move from one adjacent carriage to another because the front had doors. This was done so rail catering (remember that service?) could move along the whole train to sell coffee and snacks.
@th Indeed, the doors were removed and closed off. Also note the high up seat for the driver.
