@th probably the greatest unsolved hack ever!
@torspedia @th This and other TV broadcast intrusions documented in this fascinating article on our site:
@torspedia @th my low stakes conspiracy theory is that it was an inside job
@th bears haven’t won a Super Bowl since 🤔
Only for the USA, Max first appeared on screens in the UK in 1985 and a few days after the first tv movie... went on to present the Max Headroom show on the UK's Channel 4.
It wouldn't reach the US for more than 2yrs.
So Happy 38th birthday Max.
@anomnomnomaly @th this isn't about max headroom, it's about the max headroom incident. Unless you're saying the UK had its own max headroom incident
I wasn't aware this had even happened (I'm in the UK)... and it's hilarious. 😆
@anomnomnomaly @th Actually, this is different. This isn’t the show itself, but a mysterious broadcast that hijacked a local band in the middle of a Doctor Who rerun and played a guy in a Max Headroom mask for several minutes. No one knows how it was done out who did it or what it meant. You can see it on YouTube. It’s really creepy.
@anomnomnomaly @th this isn’t the show, it’s about an actual hack: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Max_Headroom_signal_hijacking
@th I remember seeing this LIVE! Also hit WGN TV News.
@th Max tried to tell us the Networks would take over...
@th Would love to meet the legends who pulled that off, but so would the FBI so it's best to keep quiet.
@earwigplanet @th Statute of Limitations has long passed. I’d love to hear their story.

@th Chicago icon
@th 🫢 … 36 years????
@th There was a movie called Broadcast Signal Intrusion from a few years that took heavy inspiration from this event and it wasn't a terrible movie.
@th this is for all the freaky nerds out there.
@louzao Qué grande fuera aquello. XD
@th Amazing to think that happened only 9 years after the WKRP Turkey Drop.
We need another one across all platforms proclaiming what a piece of shit Trump is for those too dense to get it yet.
@th I wonder if Matt Frewer knew at the time what that would become of that character.
@th Catch the Wave!
@th intense 80s vibes.
@th Fun times!!
@th A number of years ago, someone on reddit posted a promising-sounding theory of who might've been behind it. However, he continued to dig deeper, and it just didn't pan out. It's still a mystery.
@th more important than Christmas 👨💻
@th
(Opinion)
I'm still convinced it was Rich Koz. Totally something he'd do.
@th An actually worth it mystery to talk about. It’s quite interesting, and nobody has any 100% proof either.
@th Happy Max Headroom Day to all the Greatest World's Newspapers nerds :D!
*Hums Clutch Cargo theme*
@th I had to search it, didn't know it!

@th Man I wish I was there. Sounds crazy to see suddenly while casually watching TV in the time
@th Praise be his ass. #Spanksgiving
@th This video always creeps me out like almost nothing else.
@th seems like only yesterday :)
@th I remember this. I was in middle school when it happened, and the prudish homeroom teacher gave marks to anyone who talked about it. Being in rural Missouri, we heard about it on the news, but once it wasn't national news anymore we didn't hear much. I also never got to see the whole thing until it was on Youtube decades later, the news only played enough of it for you to get the gist.
@th I know I do, catch that wave!!!
@th Nostalgia Nerd did an amazing retrospective about Max Headroom and this hijacking last year. One of his best videos IMO.
