near : forest strawberries , May blossoms , young trees & wild flowers : overwhelm of tastes, touch & fragrances : almost unbearable happiness!

Four seasons in one day! Moon at dawn; sunrise over mountains ; warm&sunny ; very local rain & a low rainbow!!! 🌈

Here’s my house-squirrel: a Puh = Glis Glis = Edible Doormouse

Busy day: cutting wood 🪵 , picking strawberries 🍓, walking in the meadows plucking wild flowers… enjoying

I’ve chosen this morning to cycle to “town” based on weather forecast (raining y’day & will rain tomorrow) & dwindling food supplies - but - apparently it’s a holiday in Croatia & shops are closed! Still : enjoying early lunch & sun & the river :)

Rainy day at : I’ve mostly tended fire & cooked, emailed a bit - and I got the best surprise in the evening: the dog is back!!! 🥰🐕🌈 (I’ve made elderflower syrup & half-baked pizza …)

Good morning from : stone ecosystems edition! Delightful little “gardens” that remind me of Japanese styled arrangements & … but IRL! Succulents, mosses, water pools … all before 6AM! Life is great!

Plants & animals this dawn near : (possibly?) magic mushrooms that grow on sh!t , prickly beauty , & the face of the mountains! Bountiful nature after the rains! Plus all the birds I cannot see - but I hear them: so loud & clear!

travel day: Zagreb-Berlin . Morning started good: after staying with family (& cat!) & receiving their help & love, I got to the train station mostly dry & on time; thd 2nd is leaving on time so there’s hope I’ll catch the next one (in infamous Villach)!

(backlog of photos, now that I have 4G) : On my penultimate day I found abundance of , that did spring out after the rain! & they do indeed grow in fairies circles! & in 6-packs! & with pines! … now I know where to find them next time I’m in Lika… (on Greda!)

Update! Due to a “Faak”-ery in the SEE/Balkans (long delay - missed my connection) & after a lot of planning & juggling with FlixBus / train options, I decided to stay overnight in Villach, then take an early train tomorrow. Now, with the cancellations because of storm damages in Germany, I do hope I will get to Berlin at all! or at least to Munich,… & then : I’ll make a new plan.

My stay in Villach turned out to be wonderful :) I’ve napped a lot; the weather improved significantly: sunny & warm till 8PM; my hotel was a small resort on the - with swans! & view of ! So I’ve fed the this morning (radish leaves & “napolitanke”) ! & made it to the ! Thanks !

Random musings: the names for birds near sound like poetry: Ševa :
* wood lark (Lullula arborea) Шумска чучурлига

* skylark(Alauda arvensis)Poljska ševa

* crested (Galerida cristata) Ćubasta

Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius) = Kreja / Vlaamse gaai / Šojka

sivi ćuk (lat. Athene noctua) little owl

Češljugar … Carić… Kosovica… Senica.. Detlić / woodpecker …

I arrived by to Berlin (yesterday) & look who greeted me : tree ! In blossom! Its smell is enchanting… plus: an inspiring staircase for the cat & nice mural on the wall. // Friends in , let’s catch up! Although I’m at the conference every day 5-9.6. & at training 13-14.6. … but we can try to meeet up - ping me here or on Signal.

trip continues… but first, impressions from : I’ve enjoyed meeting strong women , but there was always trees in the background for me… I am taking inspiration from the turtles for the slowness… I attended the workshop about resting! And then I left… I was on the station on time .. -> going to again!!!

Illustrated (edited: _planned_) trip : Berlin - Augsburg, then night train to Zagreb, then bus to Gračac, then e-bike to ! Almost 24h door-to-door!

Hmmm the trip didn’t really go as planned ;) Night train was delayed for an hour so I’ve missed the bus; & it’s SO HOT in Croatia!! & the afternoon train has another 50 minutes delay… But I saw Zir! & fixed the door with a life hack & recycled materials ;)

I made of to the last night! almost before darkness fell ;) Here are some apocalyptic views from arrival to Gračac: Sunset over a ruined silo & train leaving the station , snail invasion, broken-down houses… & my trusted e-bike, loaded with luggage ( photo from last week) : it takes one hour to cycle here!

Practicing my Australian look at : mobile protection against flies & mosquitoes: my own private klamboe : with a net & SunHat

Selfies from : view from under the crocheted net over my hammock ; At the water fountain with my bike ; Early morning shadow on the side of Kokerna , & Wild strawberries in my palm (edited : corrected misspelling)

@becha now I'm disappointed, electric saw? Where is the manual 💪 ?

@jelu oh even with a motor saw my arm & hand were hurting after an hour! I need all the help I can get from our machine overlords ;)

@becha There are currently no long-distance trains to the north and west out of Munich and regional services are limited. You could try reroute via Passau or go via Wien and Czechia (but note the mandatory seat reservations on cross-border trains into Germany).

@partim oh?! Thanks! How about tomorrow? I’m now “stuck” for the night in Villach, was planning to take an early train over Munich .. where can I find up to date info ? dbahn?

@becha There may be trains again tomorrow but it probably will still be an adventure.

One option would be to go to Zurich this afternoon (there’s a connection 15:16) and then go to Berlin from there tomorrow. But hotels in Zurich are likely ridiculously expensive.

Or go to Vienna now and then via Prague to Berlin tomorrow but then you need to see if you can still get a reservation for the Prague—Berlin train.

@becha Villach used to be the most important train station in Austria ;)

@linos for me it still is the most important station : 2nd time in 2 years that I have to stay the night here ;)

@jon

That's what I would probably do to be on the safe side. I don't know how this is possible with @becha #interrail ticket though.

There are two decent connections, one using night train and the daytime option. Although the former is not compatible with overnight stay in hotel and the latter might be too early for decent hotel breakfast.

Maybe going via Passau and continuing on local German lines near Czech border might also be an option.

@casar @becha Right. Problem is that international re-routing like this always is a headache for the rail firms. It ought to work but doesn’t always.

HvalaAleš! @casar @jon I’ll try the daytime option over Vienna , while having a quick breakfast ;) I booked a seat reservation with my lucky number ;) that must work against the (t)rain gods, right ;)

@becha Good luck! I have a train early tomorrow morning from Linz to Berlin, so let's hope everyone is able to get there.
(20 years not seeing one another, then twice in one month. Looking forward to seeing you again.)

@becha what attracted you to vacation in Villach? I just know it as that place that the overnight train stops for an annoying amount of time.

@mcr314 I’ve missed my overnight train there before, so I found this great hotel then - and now I had to stay a night again: all the trains from Munich were cancelled due to the storm.

@becha Oh, so actually this wasn't really a plan, but an occurance.

@becha this was Tuesday morning, is that tree in the video?

Now I’m back home, visiting the @publicspaces conference tomorrow in #Amsterdam

@becha I didn't know there was an #etc thanks for the update 😎

@becha Next time you might wan't to try the night trains Graz/Split and Graz/Berlin ;)

@linos great idea! i'll book it now ! do you have a tip - how to add "only a sleeper reservation" if i already have InterRail ticket?

@becha Apparently not. Maybe @zeitgenosse knows about that kind of stuff.

@linos @becha I've had a look at at EN 1153 for 2024-06-28 in the ÖBB shop (horrible usability!). Although there is no button “I already have a ticket, I just need a reservation”, you can enter your discounts where you enter your name and a (fake) phone number. One of these discounts is Interrail Euro/global pass. The price for the sleeper car (3 females) drops from ~150 to ~85.

Apparently, couchette beds and seats are completely sold out. But you may want to check again later.
