@TheShuck@mstdn.social @ChrisMayLA6 the use of shore power when in port is required in many places. Most ports however, esp in the developed world, have emissions regulations, meaning they are burning the cleaner fuel then. Also they tend to be just running generators at that point. Most extremely large ship engines are direct drive. So they can't idle the engine in port.
