My notifications have gone kinda nuts the last couple of days. If you've sent me a toot and I've not replied. Feel free to resend. Turns out when you write a 40 post thread. There's a lot of people who hit like 40 times... Triggering 40 notifications... The mastodon app on android (or the web interface). Don't handle this well.

@ZuilenV a few people have. Some have favourited just a few. Some only the first. Some only the last. The first post has got over 120 boosts now I think, plus 100 favourites. Giving me 220 notifications for the start of the thread alone...

@ZuilenV when I'm used to 2-3 notifications a day. Yeah. It's a bit of an overwhelming.

@ZuilenV 24 more notifications since you sent this reply...

@quixoticgeek have you tried any other clients? Phanpy collapses/groups some notifications, and is generally just pretty great so far.

@kmccoy the problem with a lot of clients is the don't work with the SSO (key cloak) that my instance uses.

@quixoticgeek Ahh, copy. Well I hope you're able to work something out -- I really enjoyed your long thread, thank you!

@quixoticgeek this is what it’s like every time I come on here, I often find I’ve just not seen any mentions and haven’t replied

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st I'm quite liking Sharkey's grouping of notifications for that reason.

(To say nothing of longer character limits.)

@quixoticgeek@social.v.st I don't even know what that is - probably something invented after I was 35. My instance doesn't yet have a working API, so I can't comment on client support.

But grouping notification seems like such an obvious feature. I can understand (though don't agree with) the philosophical objection to quoting, for example, but this one's just an easy UI win.

@quixoticgeek Turns out there is a limit at 40 too of what is notified.. or maybe visible. I was looking for an earlier notification last night and realized it wouldn't show older ones. Found in a filtered column before it disappeared. ... I actually see now that the type of notification columns (web) do load older ones when you get to the bottom but the "All" one seems to be about 40 (i'm not going to count them).

@quixoticgeek I use the Mastodon web client and I can set it so 'favourites' don't show up.

I see:

"Select events that you want to receive notifications for:
Someone followed you
Someone requested to follow you
Someone boosted your post
Someone favourited your post
Someone mentioned you"

Dunno if that's any use to you.

@NatalyaD i have that, but what just means it doesn't beep everytime someone favourites a toot. I still get them showing in the notifications tab :(

@quixoticgeek Ah, I think I have the options in notifications tab itself to view all, mentions only, poll results, boosts, favourites, poll results and new people adding me, but is still an extra click.
