A couple of years ago a friend gave me a sous vide kit, I taught myself how to use it, did some fun experiments, and as a result have cooked some of the best steak I've ever eaten. Unfortunately it's kinda ruined eating steak in restaurants as it's usually not as good.

Similarly when I started playing with writing I learned about Chekhov's gun. As result of which it's kinda ruined a lot of movies and TV. Everything's become very predictable...

Oops.

@quixoticgeek I had the same thing when i learnt to homebrew (before i stopped drinking). i was pretty good at it, made some great beer, and became a giant beer snob :P

@Dangerous_beans likewise. I used to work for a beer importer who got some of the best beers around, most beer doesn't interest me these days.

@quixoticgeek this always happens when you reach an above average skill level anything. If you know how to code well then badly written software aggravates you. If you have a coffee grinder and quality beans at home then most coffee in cafés tastes like dish water. If you're pretty good at Excel you think people who don't use shortcuts are lobotomized monkey. So in order to continue to enjoy life I strive to be mediocre at best. Doing pretty well so far.
