I find it reassuring that when the UK gov did it's consultation on bringing back barbarian stupid units. Over 98% of respondents said they wanted to just stick with metric.

@quixoticgeek

People do not like change, in that sense people are conservative. Americans would benefit from going over to SI, but many don't want to change.

@tadbithuman No. It really is. Under the hood, for all the anti metric sentiment, an inch is defined as 25.4mm

@quixoticgeek ah yes, in fact all geodetic surveys in America are performed in metres and then converted to the standard foot (0.3048 m) and/or US survey foot (0.3048006096 m).

The two different measures of feet cause problems when not handled carefully with long things like highways.

@tadbithuman Exactly. US is a metric country, it just doesn't want to admit it.

And then they went ahead anyway. Literally who the hell was asking for a pint of wine?!!?

@DrJackMiller Well this is the thing they don't understand. Just cos it can legally be sold that way, who's going to make it? It will require new glassware, changing the filling lines, changing packaging, labelling. all for a teeny tiny market that, with no hope of selling those bottles in any other markets.

Very very few businesses are going to bother with such things.
