I didn't touch any of the handcuffs or strait-jackets at the Houdini museum, which was an impressive display of restraint.

The classified document Trump admitted he had on tape is missing according to reports

Wait.

Doesn’t “missing” mean you *don’t* know exactly where something is?

🤔

My husband hosted a Memorial Day weekend barbecue for his high school friends and I jokingly said “don’t forget to put your keys in the fishbowl” and their awkward stares quickly reminded me that they don’t know me half as well as the people of Mastodon know me.

I will catch the connection to Pontedera. This is how it should be. Late connecting trains from the central hubs to the surrounding reshoots, so people can make decent use of their days. In France I wouldn’t have had any more trains for a while already…

Allstate has joined State Farm in refusing to issue new homeowners insurance.

Do you realize the economic consequences of this threat of climate change? New homeowners will be unlikely to get new mortgages without insurance, and the costs will skyrocket.

Climate changes are going to have economic consequences far exceeding what traditional economists ever predicted.

After a very cold morning (for the time of year). It's warmed up a bit, and the passive solar gain of the flat has done it's thing and I'm almost feeling warm again.

Amazing things happened in America the last time we taxed billionaires at 90%. It’s an incredible story that every American should know!

Rail in France doesn’t work *even in theory*

At least in Germany the plans make sense. The timetables make sense. The coordination makes sense. Sure, it’s let down because everything gets delayed. But the theory is roughly right

In France even the theory is miles off

#BBC [World] Iran frees more Europeans after prisoner swap w.st/yLnNu

The direct Eurostar from #Amsterdam to London will disappear again, at least for a while, and only because of the border control mess 😥 @jon

Maybe they could do the check in and boarding in Schiphol?

Have out the washing on. And it's making a noise that suggests I've forgotten to take something out of a pocket. I wonder what is getting a bonus laundry cycle...

Florida anti-trans laws

There's video going around from Florida of a cis lesbian being forced out of a women's bathroom by police because someone accused her of being trans

Never mind that DeSantis's draconian bathroom bill doesn't actually go into effect until July 1st, the police are all too happy to start persecuting trans people

But this is a perfect example of how an attack on one minority group will eventually spread to more and more people that the fascists don't like.

It's not just trans people who will be affected by this. These anti-trans laws will very quickly be used to target gay and lesbian people too if they're even slightly outside of gender norms

And then eventually it will be used to come after anyone, even straight cisgender people, who don't conform to the conservative right wing idea of what a man and woman should look like

We are spiraling to a fascist's wet dream of 1950s America and they are using violence and scapegoating trans people to get there

Covid could have been an invitation to innovate for the pandemicene - from social supports to a robust public health infrastructure to building ventilation and UV treatment.

The passengers leave the station at Blagoevg… ah no, sorry, Beaucaire, France. 15000 inhabitants

We've got some health things coming up that really need covering if anyone wants some stickers, handmade plushies, earrings, art commissions, or just to donate, etc: ko-fi.com/brynndraws

SNCF - that warns you every 5 minutes about not opening the doors (when you can’t even open the doors) - does NOT in Nîmes station warn passengers to not stand in this really dangerous narrow section of platform when a freight train is passing. The driver had to just hoot furiously at a passenger stood there 🤦‍♂️

Also it strikes me rail in France has the disadvantages of centralisation (focus on Paris) but not the possible advantages (timetable coordination, through ticketing)

It’s got the disadvantages of a railway split up into multiple operations (TER, Intercités, OUIGO, inOui etc.) making the system hard to use, but without the advantages that real competition between companies could bring

They’ve got the *worst of it all*

It takes some doing

Let's see how this pans out. Reddit is starting to charge for API calls (like Twitter), which creates a massive inconvenience to moderators, the unpaid volunteers that make Reddit less of a toxic cesspool. Mods use third-party tools to do their work, since Reddit's own tools are inadequate for the job.
