Could someone please explain why this style of water bottle is so popular? I see them a lot. I've been told it's cos you get a cup and a bottle. But if you're using the cup, the bottle is then open, to be easier to spill... Or attract wasps... It just feels like poor design. No doubt it's won many design awards. I just don't get it...

@quixoticgeek Convenient aspect ratio, both small & large openings, colourful, good marketing campaign, “feel good” messaging, etc. In my experience they’re robust, and do what they need to do.

The insulated versions insulate quite well, and all are dishwasher safe, which is not a universal given with other bottles (esp. insulated ones).

By now I think we have one of each model except the newest smallest one.

@quixoticgeek Occasionally, when sharing with multiple ppl (= enables simultaneous drinking). The large opening is the convenient one for filling, though.

@quixoticgeek Definitely easy to clean. At knit-alongs when someone brings wine, anyone who has one will just pop the cup part off to be used as a wine glass. You can also add ice cubes easily, although that seems like a more desirable feature for Americans since it’s rarely that hot here.

@holly for my cycle bottles, rather than ice cubes (which rattle), I lay a bottle with about ⅓rd fill of water in the freezer at an angle. Then when I head out for the ride, I just fill bottle with water. The ice then melts slowly keeping the water cold. But doesn't rattle.

@quixoticgeek That is a great solution when you’re the kind of person capable of planning ahead, and not the kind of person who walks outside, thinks, “damn it’s hot!”, and then goes back in to look for ice for your water bottle.

@holly ah. In summer I just have multiple bottles so I leave some in the freezer.
