Looks like Twitter is eliminating free access to its APIs on Feb 9. I haven't seen information about pricing yet, but this could very well be the end of an era for platform transparency and social media research. I built my first collection script in 2010. Since then, 80% of my research focuses on that silly bird platform. It's long been time (for my team, at least) to move on, but this will profoundly change how researchers (and society) can study and understand online behavior.

I wrote about the 'Dear Gillian' project, which sounds AWESOME but involves some really worrying contract terms for submission.

As the Ts and Cs stand, contributors won't be paid (or even credited), and the publisher gets the rights to their story *even if it's not selected for the book*

Other 00s fandom conventions that would serve us well to revive include:
"don't like, don't read": got no idea why that one fell from favour but people just keep reading things they don't like and flaming the author anyway.
"flaming": I used it correctly just there. It's the thing that every Not Online Pundit calls trolling.
"squick": no moral judgment implied, just something you find icky and you don't need to explain further.

Since this is doing numbers - this is not a universal feature of EVs! You can't just buy this adapter and expect it to work.
