We got a tandem! We used to have a Burley years ago and it was a blast, and now that we’re in the land of bike paths we figured we should maybe get another one.

@Fullnihilism@kolektiva.social @zyk@mastodon.nz I suddenly want to create a teacore tumblr

@kdorse @leigh Based on what I’ve learned about tipping, it was always about wage theft. Whenever I hear about restaurants trying I always hear later that it failed because people complained. Who are all these people who enjoy doing math at the end of a meal??

My daughter, who has had a degree in computer science for 25 years, posted this observation about ChatGPT on Facebook. It's the best description I've seen:

@thatmanmatt @anniebeeknits @lukito American here, I’d fill in the blanks on the form I’m filling out.

Great moments in software engineering

Newfoundland, ca. 1000 CE: A bug in the Google Maps route-planning algorithm at high latitudes causes Leif Eriksson and his crew to miss Greenland entirely. They instead become the first Europeans to reach North America. They name the place "Vimland" in honor of a text editor sacred to Odin. Emacs-using natives soon attack the Vikings on several Usenet groups.

i heard someone say "ladies, gentlemen, and people who've defeated gender in hand to hand combat" and i think that's just neat

@No_One@kolektiva.social @AmericanFietser The one pictured is an “Urban Arrow” and it’s a really good choice. They have electric assist, and the weight is low to the ground for stability. Handling can be a bit “swimmy”, but that’s to be expected with the long wheel base. I’m tiny, under 110 lbs, and I can ride them around loaded up with no problem. I’m pretty sure they’re the most popular multiple kid transporter among moms here, and a cargo bike share company also uses them cargoroo.nl

@oldrawgabbit @danwentzel I live in a place where people take bikes and transit for these sorts of things, and not only does it work, it creates a beautiful, quiet, and sociable landscape. Kids, for example, bike themselves to school and also to after school activities on their own starting at age 10 (before that they ride on their parents’ bikes). People working in cafes and such definitely don’t drive to work because where would they park? There are no parking lots.

@KevinCarson1 @ehashman America did this, too. From the 1920’s to 60’s kids in Louisiana were beaten if they spoke French in school. While my great grandmother’s first language was (cajun) French, my grandmother could only understand but not speak it, and those of us in the generations after can do neither.

Hi there #Finland :nkoWave:

Welcome to #NATO! :blobcathighfive:

Let's make the world a safer place for us all ❤️

@vacapinta Yeah, I swear Dutch is harder despite being closer to English. Japanese felt far more systematic, with clear rules that made sense and were consistently followed. I don’t think I’ll ever fully internalize when to use perfectum vs imperfectum in Dutch.

Trans people were always here

"Using recent breakthroughs in photo editing techniques, Eli colorizes, restores, and digitizes photos from queer and trans history. The following images are originally from 1897-1973."

Great post from creatrixtiara (mage.town/@creatrixtiara)!
